The Afganka M88 uniform

The Afganka M88 uniform

The Afganka M88 uniform was a big step forward in producing a modern combat uniform for the Soviet army. It entered service in 1983 & by 1984 was issued on a larger scale in Afghanistan but never replaced completely the older M69. The Afganka uniform was a success with the troops because of the comfortable cut & it's multi pockets.

The brass shining buckle was still worn!

The Afganka/Panamka (Panama) hat was enjoyed among the troops. Note the hat's many grommet vent holes. The basic webbing remained the same, sometime Chinese captured three-cell chest rig would start to be used.

2 button holes were provided to insert the chinstrap.

The Afganka/Panamka hat could be worn under the Ssh68 steel helmet  specially under the blazing sun of Afghanistan.
